The studio's film Kokuriko-zaka Kara (Translation: From Up on Poppy Hill,) was released last year on July 16. Since its debut, it has grossed approximately $60,034,949 USD in the box office thus far, won both titles of Animation of the Year in the Japan Academy Prize as well as Tokyo Anime Awards earlier this year.

The critical acclaim that follows this film is rightfully put due to the graceful imagery as well as the plot transition. The only downside to criticize about the film is how the plot is a bit rushed for closure; making it a pitiful waste of excellent development from the beginning. Despite this one criticism, which many animated films struggle to overcome, Kokuriko-zaka Kara holds its position as Ghibli’s next Oscar award winner.

For those who have not seen this film yet and are the type that are absolutely intolerant to English adaptions or are simply impatient, the film will be translated and released in North America by March 2013. For those who are interested in seeing this film and are Ghibli fans, like me, here is the trailer for the film.

One last note to the Ghibli fans: for those who haven't noticed yet, Studio Ghibli has finally made an RPG. The title is Ni No Mini : Wrath of the White Witch. From the Level 5 productions (the people who brought you Dragon Quest IX and the Professor Layton series, ) we will now be seeing an innovative work, possibly one with an upcoming "best story" of 2013 (or so I tend to believe and witness.) I don't know about you, but this may have my hopes up for the Anime industry in general.

PM me for links to see "From Up on Poppy Hill" if you wish to see the film online.
